When I first started blogging, (back in 2010), I struggled to get anyone to visit my blog – let alone comment. That’s a common problem and one that many (if not most) bloggers struggle with. I finally turned the corner and started building a solid following after implementing what I always refer to as my “Stalking the Popular Kids” strategy. It was effective for me then and still is now.
This week, in my #FridayFinds series, lets take a look at how two bloggers (both have been blogging since 2009) are building blog communities that are driving traffic to their sites and engaging in comments! In my last #FridayFinds post, we took a look at neuromarketing and how big companies use it to influence buyers. For those of you who may have missed that article, in neuromarketing, companies use medical technologies such as fMRIs (functional magnetic resonance imaging) and EEGs (electroencephalography) to study how our brains respond to marketing stimuli. In that article, I shared a bit of the history behind this field of marketing . (Remember the 2004 Pepsi Challenge?) We also took a look at how digital marketers are applying behavioral psychology into website design and how neuroscience can be used to increase conversion rates on our web pages. You’ve identified key “influencers” in you r niche and follow them. You know who your target reader is and you know where your referral traffic is coming from. As a blogger, do you sometimes feel that the “rules” that you followed last week have changed? For example, are you still writing blog post titles that are close to 70 characters long? What if I told you that it’s now best to limit them to 55? Did you know that research shows that longer blog posts attract more links (which helps your page rank)? Did you know that longer means 1,500+ words? Well, that’s definitely up for debate but there’s plenty of research to support that.
