We’ve all seen them . . . those little RSS icons (sometimes with text prompting you to subscribe). You may already have an RSS feed set up. You probably have subscribers and routinely submit your feed to directories. Using RSS feeds may already play be part of your link building efforts or (if you’re relatively new to blogging), you may be a little perplexed by the whole thing. Subscribing to an RSS feed can be pretty intimidating. So what the heck is this RSS stuff all about anyways?
We all know that Google Analytics gives us access to a wealth of information about our website traffic. You can find out not only how many website visitors you have but when they came, what content they looked at, how long they stayed and what page they exited from (along with much more valuable information). One of the statistics that I keep a close eye on is referring sites (under traffic sources).
In last week’s post, I talked about using RSS feeds to get updates on blogs and other websites such as news media. I specifically mentioned blogs and news websites because those are the two types of websites that are most likely to have RSS feeds. Of course, the reason for having an RSS feed is to easily give your readers access to your updates. And blogs need to be updated. Believe me when I say a successful blog is a commitment.
